Today a group of people from 7 of the 10
Maricopa County Community Colleges (Estrella Mountain, Gateway, Mesa, Paradise Valley, Phoenix, Rio Salado and Scottsdale) that are leaders in their colleges sustainability efforts gathered, to discuss what issues each of the colleges are facing as well as solution ideas to solve those problems. Some of the issues mentioned were lack of support from either Facilities departments or administration, as well as funding and staffing for sustainability programs. The group met at the
Green Restaurant, an all vegan restaurant. The meeting will take place again in January most likely at a conference room at Rio Salado College, and from there on will be held on a monthly basis.
This upcoming Monday December 7th, the United Nations will gather in Copenhagen to discuss the future efforts of the world for Climate Change. Since the United States and other leading industrialized countries such as Germany have indicated that it will be hard to come to any consensus with nations such like India and China, this summit looks like it will not have the renewal effect for the Kyoto Protocol that it originally hoped to replace. Instead political leaders say, that although this will be an important gathering and many tasks will be discussed and brought on the way, that there will be another summit/conference required to make more serious commitments.
